God's Words
God’s Words
When I was a child at nine
And suddenly there was no safe adult,
I heard God say I am good.
I was good in a world of bad.
I was trying in a battle to be lost
I was silenced without a choice.
I pretended I was fine.
There was that smile again.
People liked the smile
And couldn’t see the pain inside
From trauma that froze my mind.
Then it melted away years later.
I tried again, sacrificed.
Fought another battle lost.
So, I went on my way.
Never giving up on myself.
Never forgetting God’s words.
That saved me when the world caved in
Many years ago.
Here I am, able to speak now.
I will cry when I want to.
And I will celebrate the rest.
