God's Good Graces
When I was young,
I wanted to be seen and to be heard.
I desired to compel, to excel, and to exhale.
In prior years,
I wanted to make an impression.
Currently, just a mild expression will suffice.
I’m older now;
and somehow I prevailed, and my ship has kept on sailing.
And I am, with a little help, learning to relax, inhale, and exhale.
I’m older now;
and the experiences of life have played a key role.
And thankfully, I have not lost nor sold my soul.
I’m older now;
and but for the good graces of our Lord,
I suspect I would have ceased to travail, gotten lost, and went astray along the trail.
