Goddess Kali
I am the glorious Goddess, Goddess Kali.
I bring things to an end, then I bring things to be.
My eyes can be golden, blessing each birth
or they can turn black as I’m singing a dearth.
I enter a crowd and emerge a mob.
Death to all innocence, the cradle I rob.
Kissing the brow of the poet’s eyes
I would share my language, share my cries.
Kali the destroyer and creator of life
She signs our fate with the toss of a knife
Kali the creator, the poet’s first muse.
Born again soon, she’s the form I would choose.
