Notes:

Colin Kaepernick would not stand for the National Anthem, now more players are following suit. Now everyone has the right to protest to effect change, although one would think very rich sports stars would also have the financial means to to start making the changes themselves by supporting and helping out the very causes they believe in.

They might even try something like voting. There is no perfect Country, and all Countries by today standards have dark parts of their history. We should not always judge with today's standards, but we should also not erase history just because we don't like it. We should learn and grow from it. The flag for many represents the millions who have enlisted and fought for this Country. Not for what it is, but for what they wanted it to become. Many soldiers died for that cause.

You don't have to like your current leader, or agree with all things, you live in a free country where you can work to effect change without disrespecting those who died for you to have that right. A point of interest, many of those who kneel during the Anthem, didn't even vote, the very basic of responsibilities in any democracy, shame on them.

I am not American, I just think all men and women who serve their nation whatever nation whatever free nation that happens to be should behonored and repsected!

In the courts of sport and entertainment They have forgotten the scales of justice Lacking honor for those who gave life and limb Sacrificing blood, and buried with god giving grace The anthem is our history of all triumphs, good, and even flaws Look into the eyes of a veteran to see inside a suffering vault They, who fought, so that you may play They who died, so that the rich live this day Even the poor still have their freedoms For veterans themselves, knew their reasons No man, no nation can stand up to perfection Its about respect of those, who gave... Despite all imperfections Without, history repeats, sending more to the cross and knave When you hear "God Bless America" Think of those flag covered graves Think of the children No fathers, because it is you they saved Our nation is human Filled with imperfections Protest for change, for better days While holding respect for those, who before you With their blood, led the way

God, Bless America in land that I truly love. I am a retired veteran whose dad was also killed on active duty on flight deck of Carrier Intrepid now in New York harbor. His name can be found there.

Hello Arthur, Most Excellent work in putting the very moving write together along with the great photos from Eve Roper. Best Kudos to both of you!! As a retired U.S. military veteran (with my brother being a Vietnam veteran and my father a veteran of WWII as well), all I can say is "God Bless You" for putting all of this into very meaningful words and images. I'm very proud of your write here. I know my father, if he were living, would say the same thing!! A FAVE TOO!! Cheers, Gary

Arthur: This is a masterpiece from the Master of Verse! Thx for alerting me to it via your soupmail. This should be distributed and read by all. Many thx for taking time to read the Halloween Tricksters thing. Hope it doesn't give any ideas to the younger generation or we'll all be in trouble - ha! Keep on writin'! Bob H

The flag and anthem are symbols of unification, one country indivisible. There is a time and place to protest and stand up for just causes and exercise your right of free speech. This is not the time. I salute you Arthur Vaso and your patriotic fervor, well done...

Arthur you my friend are so right and I don't think it could be better said than the way you have expressed your comment. For I wish every athlete could see your words here. Kaepernick had issues with police brutality against African Americans. He should specifically address that issue, not standing for the men and woman that gave their lives so he can be protected from harms way is not the right way to protest police violence against African Americans. My brother does not watch football any more.

Yes, even to respect those way before, WWI even, WWII, and all the other wars that have come after, need to be acknowledged as they have given their lives for our freedom! The national anthem represents all that is free, their right to protest is within the national anthem, but not to disrespect the flag! Why would you try to protest the one thing that gives you the right to protest? That doesn't make sense to me! You have written such a magnificent piece, Thank you for sharing it! Great Work!!

Such a wonderful tribute, without these faithful patriots our country would not be standing. I too am so grateful for those who serve, those in my family, and those outside. Such a lovely write, too! Thank you. Love, Juli-Michelle

So beautifully written my friend. Pure truth and common sense that some choose to ignore. Many are acting out with hate in their hearts. Disrespecting the sacrifices made by millions of honorable men and women that gave them to safety and rights they enjoy today... Think- WW2, AND WHAT THEY'D BE NOW IF NOT FOR THOSE SACRIFICES.
