i'm not sure if it's my emotions or this day that allowed me to see everything colorless daybreak arose beneath a dismal canvas no white puffs of clouds no splashes of pink to mark its rise the trees stood there colorless and bare almost invisible through a thick fog as it rose from tainted snow everything blended the same on this gray, hazy kind of day i felt a feeling of despair as i looked around looking for color yet everything blended, the same

Gloomy indeed. In concerns with your fist section, for me, I think even a beautiful day can seem a little wan if our heart and mind is somewhere else (and perhaps our senses are just good at fooling us)... it grabs me the way you question that, "I'm not sure if it's my emotions or this day..." ... excellent again.
