Back when our children were growing up
times were hard financially..I always fixed
a icebox fruitcake around Christmas..At the
grocery store there were containers with
mixed diced dried candied fruit which looked
like a great deal for two reasons already
chopped and less expensive so I thought that
I would give that a go..It had orange peel and
lemon peel and something else which I never
figured out what it was..My daughter loved
that cake like her father but she took one bite
and she spit it out..She did not like the citrus
in it..She would sit there and get all the Graham
cracker mix off and spit the fruit out on her plate.
Yuck!!

Funny the way it was then Feisty teen who loved sweets Fine icebox fruitcake served Fruit quite different mixed From citrus~lemons, limes Flipped fruit flew from teen's lips Fantasy taste was gone

Jan, That candied citrus peel is kind of strong..LOL..I don't know why they do that ...I guess at a plant when they buy oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit much of the weight is the peel so they figured out a way to get money back out of the peel by doing candied citrus peel and orange marmalade..LOL..Sara

Curtis, We all remember at least one excellent dish our mother prepared and it seems that no one else can make it the way our mother did..My husband's mother was the one who made this cake..My mother made those very thin multiple layered iced cakes that were so wonderful..Thanks for dropping by with words of remembrance..Your comments are appreciated..Sara

Funny how our taste changes over time. I now eat things, I wouldn't even consider eating as a child. I can see your daughter spitting out the candy but were it in my parents house, she had better not let them see her do it:) Nice poem, Mrs Sara:)

Daniel, My daughter probably would not eat that now and would sit there and spit out the fruit..LOL..She is having a rough time ..She has had lapband surgery to loose weight and it is no laughing matter at all..Yes, most parents would not allow a child to do that at the table for it is not very good manners at all totally inconsiderate of others..Sara
