From Time To Eternity

FROM TIME TO ETERNITY We measure life by time right now, by seconds, hours, days, And every year goes faster by with its so many ways. And some times it seems long to wait for some coming event; Impatiently we wait for it to come, but soon that time is spent. But out there past this life we live there is eternity— Not measured as we do time now, for it will ever be. I do not understand it all, but truly this I know: There will be some place there to be where some day we will go. We won’t be unaware of things, events will still pass by, But we won’t measure then by time and say how it did fly. The closest way I understand thoughts of eternity Is looking at our number scale, for in it we can see That numbers just go on and on, into infinity, And positive or negative they have no end to see. Eternity past is just like that, and so it will be then When in the time that’s yet to come where we will live again. That’s why it’s so important now for how we must decide Where we will spend eternity and ever more abide. We might have days or years below in trials or in strife, But there is much more to all this than just few years of life. It’s heaven or it’s hell—both real, both for eternity, And what we do with Jesus now determines where we’ll be. No time in heaven or in hell to mark a passing day, No watch, no calendar to mark when one has passed away. And some may think that God’s unfair the suffering not to end; But if they’d trusted in His Son, they’d not this place there spend. For heaven’s just as real as hell, so full of joy and bliss, And God invites each one to come by only doing this: Repenting of their sinful way, receiving His dear Son, From time now to eternity their new life’s now begun.
