From Icarus

to

Goldilocks

The "Sphinx" on Mars has been the subject of much debate.  There are some who believe inhabitants of Mars relocated to Earth when Mars' climate became too cold.  In Greek mythology, Icarus used wings of wax to fly too close to the sun.

Ninety-three million miles From sun to Earth’s Goldilocks Zone Tiny Mercury and mysterious Venus Torrid, too close to the sun Carbon—based life prohibited An Icarus Zone perhaps But what of Earth’s neighbor? Holst’s “militant” red planet Mars Crimson star glows ominously At 164 million miles from Earth Theories abound Scientists say Mars once had water Microorganisms found When man finally explores Might evidence confirm speculation? We may learn how species evolved On a planet now dry and desolate And what of the Sphinx head on Mars Created by intelligent beings, Or just a “natural formation”? What changed to prevent Mars From supporting life today? Could Earth suffer the same fate? Stay tuned to the news Climate change is underway *March 31, 2021 For Anthony Biaanco’s Goldilocks Zone contest

Fantastic poem Carolyn, love the way you’ve built in the suspense, of the possibility of life on mars, with the Sphinx head, creepy looking thing, but definitely a natural phenomenon, did life once exist, my gut says yes, my mind says at a very basic form, brilliantly honest factual scientific poem, best of luck in the contest cheers David

In the movie "Mission to Mars," astronauts entered the sphinx and were greeted by an ET who explained the migration of Martians to other planets, including Earth. Fascinating film. Thanks for reading the poem.

The Mars theory is an interesting one, Carolyn. For sure many strange things have occurred through these past millions of years, and our World will one day have to face more changes! ~ Regards & hugs // paul

Wow! Carolyn, You have penned a well-written, deep, and thought-provoking write. The whole universe holds many mysteries. Was their life on mar? Will, what happened “hypothetically” to Mars happen to us on earth? I don't know, but what I do know is, this is an excellent entry for the contest. Best wishes in the contest. Have a great evening and a Happy Easter:-)Alexis

Yes is the human race the Nomads of the universe, waiting to leave one dying planet. Carolyn this is an amazing poem, so full of information, as well as poetic bliss.

Thought provoking verse Carolyn, I find it strange that Mars dried up that way being further out than earth, and what puzzles me even more is that earth is the only planet in our solar system capable of sustaining life. Tom

Kind of a scary thought. Personally I believe that if God wanted us out there we would have been born out there. However this is our home and this is where I want to stay. Never wanted to go where you have to import air. I don't even snorkel. lol God Bless, JB

Brilliant exploration my friend. Mystery of the evolution we are yet to fully grasp. You are right--science believes there was once life on Mars. We can't take the goldilocks zone for granted. May your journey lead to a splendid win, Carolyn.

Taking a look at the present-day condition of Mars, it is very frightening to think our earth is headed in the same direction. Great write as usual.

We really don't know what will happen, but the speculation is quite interesting. Have a great Easter Sunday, Robert!

Well thought and composed, Carolyn, but we still do not know what is going on in Earth's oceans, so let us get to the bottom of that, first! Aloha! Rico

Indeed, the Mariana Trench is so deep that we still haven't explored it. Oceanography is fascinating! Thanks for reading, Rico.

Creative lines that you have penned. Who knows, only God knows about what went on on Mars? I don't think it ever has been or ever will be designed to support life as we know it. Sara

Thanks for reading, Sara. Scientists say they found evidence microorganisms lived in oceans on Mars. But you may be correct!
