From a Mother's Heart
As you fly away, my kaleidoscope of butterflies
Warmth invades my heart, worry lines my eyes
As you crawl slowly out of the cocoon
be cognizant of the sun at summer noon
Don’t let it slightly fade or singe
the innocent glow of your tinge
Look out for the thorns and bramble
Lest they shear the heavenly ensemble
Elude the hungry predatory eyes that follow
your traipse through blooms—red and yellow.
Bruise fingers that are callous and indifferent
to the gossamer fragility of your pigment
I will kneel down and pray in silence
to not let the air taint your essence
And when you can, do stop by hither
to alleviate my chill and shiver.
