Freeing the Spirit
A heritage of honor and pride passed down
Tainted with degredation and blood
proud men's spirits and daughters raped
As they cried to the rock of Ages.
Ripped from homelands far away
they watched freedom's dove fly away
humbled beneath stinging whips many a day
As they cried to the Rock of Ages.
Forgiveness comes easy not so to forget
with hopes and dreams they looked to the future
Striving to overcome broken hearts and spirits bound
As they cried louder than an eagle to the Rock of Ages.
Inspired by Maya Angerlou.
