Fragrance Lost To Heaven

"I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it" Quote - by E.E. Cummings I still remember the day a long time ago when a young hapless widow my aunt came to live with us we fondly called her Rosy because she had pinkish cheeks her real name we forgot my sister and I became her instant fans not because she was such a beauty we adored her for the way she treated us she was so caring and so loving one reason I can now understand she found in us her unborn children after she finished her chores at night she would tell us the stories she had heard from her soldier husband the stories of the lands he had gone of the battles he had fought and won as she told why the bold soldier didn't return we could see a tiny drop of tear shine at the edge of her eyes where a flicker of pride flashed in the gleam of twilight hour her lively face glowed like a flower soaking the crimson rays of the setting sun I saw aunt Rosy turn to a rose wilting under the starry night sky the fragrance lost to heaven but the petals of her charm are still in my heart ______________ September 4, 2022 Syllable count : Prime number per line (HMS) Theme : Lost To Heaven-Aunt Contest : Writing Challenge-In My Heart- S Forms Sponsored by : Constance La France
