Fragments of Shell

Tossed upon blank beaches like men without souls, shell fragments littering the sand. Each broken shell once could sing lyrics lilting of glories past, tales spun in Dresden colors, soft, shimmering memories - blissful days beneath shining seas. In broken men who walk the earth, vignettes I view . . . shattered beauty every one. Copyright, August 3, 2014 Faye Lanham Gibson

yes, I agree with what andrea has said; would've been a top winner with me, too, for sure...I read this one before and knew it would be difficult (and probably impossible) to top it! I love the new style of writing that is emerging from you, like a butterfly from a chrysalis, it's wonderful to see! congrats on your top win :)

The shattered beauty of a city like Dresden was indeed a needless waste by many accounts. Building bombs always increases the risk however that they will be used. if war is an oxymoron so to it seems is peace. When will we ever learn!

War is such a horrible thing, Faye. The casualties go far beyond the end of any war. The senseless destruction of so many lives is impossible to understand, God help us all.... Robert.

Faye, I find a hint of tribute to those who served in battle and now, seemingly broken men and women. Beautifully comforted in the last short stanza. The last line in particular: "shattered beauty every one."

Hi, John...been doing the grandma thing the past several days, so I am way behind. Thanks for your comments. I love what you gleaned in this verse; I have a nephew who was in the special forces--no physical wounds, but there are many deep scars.
