Four Seasons: Part Three

Man was not meant to live all by himself Alone, he is nothing but earth and mud He devices tricks and schemes like an elf To find his Eve of same flesh, bone and blood Metals or stones, words and vows are exchanged Lies as well as truth all wrapped into one Hoping in time parties won’t get estranged Above all, lust is lost and love is won Time will tell if smiles will turn into frowns And well wishers become gossip mongers My love and her lady glow in their gowns While the cleric speaks of signs and wonders I laugh and let out tears with mixed feelings I will miss my days of shady dealings

Thanks Tehilla. The poem, which is structured in the form of a Shakespearean Sonnet, is an attempt to interrogate what I'd like to call the "Third Phase of man's life." At this stage, a person decides to get married but doesn't wholeheartedly embrace the idea of being faithful to one partner for the rest of their life hence the mixed feelings. This is why in the last two lines he talks about how happy he is but also lets us know he is doubtful whether he's made the right decision by getting married.
