For Words Would Fall
You turn
your back to me
and the wind
to light
your second cigarette
from
off the first .
dark collar up against
the autumn chill
between us,
If I could yell
or slap your face
somecolor in our life
might just return.
But....
no,
I won't be there
tonight.
The words
I cannot say
you'll find out soon enough,
this frozen love
must somehow thaw alone
or not at all..........
for words would fall,
over the cliff
of my lips,
to be
impaled below
on your dark heart
of stone.
