For My Children
Another year ahead of us,
means another year behind.
The things that last year troubled you,
are the furthest from your mind.
With each new year new obstacles,
are certain to come your way.
And though I want what's best for you,
I can't always save the day.
I'm ready for the joyful smiles,
and the stories hid behind.
And my arms forever open,
when your eyes don't want to shine.
The small print under freedom wings,
reads “responsibility”.
My only job to prepare you,
but this life is yours to be.
This year will fly like all the rest,
stay humble when soaring high.
And when life rears it's ugly head,
find the beauty in the sky.
