For Grandpa
I remember when I was old enough to remember
And I looked up into the big man's loving eyes
How he would warmly look down and smile at me
And place me on his thigh
He would cradle me gently in his arms
And rock me in his rickety rocking chair
He made me feel loved and cared for
As he softly brushed my hair
He taught me to laugh my pain away
He could always make me smile
He would defend me against the monster
Who made me feel so vile
If my Grandpa never would have loved me so
And helped me through those years
I know I never would have lived this long
Its why I hold his memory near
I know there is a special place in heaven
Where my Grandpa now resides
And one day soon ill see him again
And sit upon his thigh
