Fool's Gold
A thought of you, melted away
You became unreachable
Loss of words linger in the empty cave
Wind is howling at the entrance
Lonely, damp darkness engulfs me
A sliver of light is found between boulders
Water drips into ominous pools
I walk carefully to dodge them
Balancing on the slippery rocks
I can’t see you anymore
I can’t hear you anymore
Then, I see the sparkle below
It is reflecting what I thought you were
I reach down gingerly to pick it up
Tears fall into the palm of my hand
Rolling off the discovery of fool’s gold
