Follies of Immortality

Would I want to live forever Watch the mountains turn to desert Deserts turn into forest Watch the fall and rise of civilizations The order turn into chaos Would I feel the heartbeat of the earth The breathing of the world, inwards and outwards As a mortal would his own Would I watch the stars shine and fade Does the galaxy live like the earth Having a breath and heart beat of its own Could I encompass it all Or would I slip into madness Would I turn into a god Worshipped by all Envied of all My wisdom spreading the ages Or would I simply become something beyond Unable to relate to their ideas Speak and not be understood Hear and hear only scorn I think I enjoy the shortness of life Let each moment count Enjoy each as it comes And think that these are the Follies of immortality
