Time flows like a river!

They didn't rush out to greet him When Father time made his call... They traded house and picket fence... For one room down a long hall like soldiers standing watch... They take turns staring at the clock... And wonder where the babies are.... They used to rock! He said....It's Grand Central Station... Every day, at breakfast call Between the walkers and the wheelchairs! She said.....Be glad that you can walk! Silence streaks across the room... And a hush falls on the hallway... When the announcer says...bingo has... Been cancelled... for today! Oh! They're going with the flow Like candles...when he wind begins to blow... Two precious silver tears... ....in their golden years They are going with the flow! Close friends and family... Don't come around much...anymore So they comfort one another... 'Thought that what friends were for.... They pack up to go back home..... About once a week it seems... And the nurse softly smiles... As she unpacks their things... They are going..... Going.......Goi

This is a very moving poem Chuck. I once worked in a "nursing home". Such a pity when relatives and friends choose not to visit. Elders are so intuitive...and hopeful. Linda

Wow, Chuck, this is an amazing emotional poem, I remember some years ago, as a care home worker, delivering breakfast to a locked area of the home, (for their safety that is) where a lady stood behind a windowed door, with suitcase in hand, she wanted so badly to go home. What i've just read reminds me so much of that time. The poem has such strength, To my fav

Sad.. We don't want to think about the time might come when we have to be in a nursing home or assisted living but it could happen. My parents were there for over a decade but they seemed to make the most of it. I would get them at least once a week and take them out if nowhere else but to my home to have a homemade meal but in the end they we not able to come out. Sara

Much emotion emanates from every verse, Chuck--the ending tugs the heart--a stunning melancholy creation.
