First Steps
The grandest epic starts with
Only one word at a time.
You must tread on that first step
If stairway you would climb.
Foremost notes don’t make a song
But surely must be played
Before a firm foundation
For the musical is laid.
Don’t leap to a conclusion
Without initial clue.
You must have a beginning
For an ending to ensue.
There never was a scholar
Without the one who taught,
And there must be a problem
For answer to be sought.
In life there are no shortcuts
For reaching final goal.
To travel that big highway
You first must pay the toll.
No master of his craft will claim,
There’s no need to prepare.
That first step must be taken
Life’s grand rewards to share..
