First Love

First love, it’s something you never forget Then follow others, you’ll come to regret As hormones open young hearts, just beware Would be lovers will come out of thin air. The first heartbreak will drop you to your knees Is this what love is like? Oh help me, please “This is a test, you’ll be strong in the end You will be wiser, and your heart will mend” True love will spread as does a mighty tree From a strong foundation, love can grow free Connected with branches of similar size A beautiful balance, then love can rise. Be patient, and your soulmate will arrive First build a foundation, so love can thrive.

Dear James, I too prefer the English version of the sonnet, although I write in both. Thanks so much for the response my friend. Betty

I enjoyed this well written sonnet, Betty. That first love teaches us so many important lessons. I think we all carry that first torch inside forever.

Thank you dear friend. I actually wrote this one for a young girl who had just gone thru her first disappointing heartbreak. Thanks for your kind comment. Betty
