First Fall of Snow
I arise in the early morning
And take my first glance out the window
Beams of light piercing through
Seem dimmer than usual
With a whiter hue to it
As I stare outside I realize
The world of fall that I once knew
The falling colored leaves
The damp sidewalks and pouring rain
The warm smell of cinnamon and crisp apples
Being stuck in school, wasting away time
And the fall breeze blowing gently through my hair
Had all disappeared overnight
The world was now a marshmallow blanket
Everything around covered in powdered sugar
The air was a refrigerator
Having incredible density and crispness
The cool and colorful fall was replaced
In its space stood a frigid and cruel winter
A change that came without warning
Sneaking in silently through the night
Greeting the weary awaking from their slumber
The phrase "You don't what you've got 'till it's gone"
Is marked by the first fall of snow
