Fires

We all have fires. Some burn quickly, Fiercely, Until nothing remains But ash and smoke. Some fires scintillate In the darkness, Emanating a vermillion glow As embers smolder. Others burn endlessly It seems, Flames jumping up And retreating back down In a dance that cycles Over and over again. Some fires spread Beyond the pit in all directions, Becoming an uncontrollable Force that leaves The landscape charred And crumbling In its wake.
