Fire In the Bones
She said she met an angel of God,
he introduced himself in the form of a homeless man
Of course, she doubted what he told her
Visually speaking, it was easy to understand;
raggedy clothes, holding a bag of cans
But he had beautiful, soft hands, not that of a hard living man
When he stopped her on her way to work,
he didn't beg for money, or ask her to buy him something to eat
No, he looked at her with an ancient stare
and told her that God had heard her prayer
That shook her when he said that,
as he mentioned everything she said in solitude in her morning meditation
After the afterglow of the awe,
a growing fear set in, like a 900-pound sin
Fear not, said the calming voice of the man,
as he gently placed his hand on her cheek
He said that her spirit is such that God seek,
those who are compassionate, kind and meek
And as a sign that God has chosen you,
when I leave, a blue bird shall land at your feet
and sing a happy blue bird song
Then after you've given her something to eat,
you shall feel a fire start burning in your bones
It shall begin low, but you will know it's there
And in time it will grow, this fire of faith:
it will consume you body and soul,
as you cast away all your worldly cares
For God has now chosen you
to speak His words of truth
This burning fire in your bones
is His blessed gift to you, it is your proof
