Field of Flowers and Stones

Lasting memories haunt a tearful mind How distant the dreams that no one owns Etched marble, another name to remind Lay in silent fields of flowers and stones To search for days that will never be unearth youthful years that quickly passed To stand in a field where soldiers are free know their torment is over at last Eyes flow freely at a stone so cold Brushing her hand across a marble name fingers tremble for a son she can't hold years to live with the pain she'll claim Handed a flag that eight soldiers fold Knowing her son will never grow old 2/18/15

A stone so cold! A son who would never grow old! Lovely in its sadness.

"Poignant" is most certainly the word I would use. Great sense of "Atmosphere" to the words, Fred...nicely done! :-) john.

You have captured the depth of pain and anguish so poignantly in this excellent poem Frederic. The loss is overwhelming and continues, to a bit lessor degree, forever. I am fav'ing this beautifully written poem. Bravo my friend! 7+

The poem flows with a sad beat and the words say everything by evoking thoughts within the reader's consciousness. Emile #7

This is so beautiful and full of emotion. Brought tears to my eyes. I am afraid if I read it again, I will actually cry. It's a 7 in heaven from me. Janet
