Author's Notes: "Fickle" is a new Verse poem that I finished on March 28, 2016. I wrote this piece as a reflection on what being fickle appears to be to me. We all deal with or have dealt with situations, circumstances, and certainly "people" where the nature of someone or something being fickle can have a quite telling affect and/or effect in the course of daily and constant human interaction. Experiencing the fickle, the capricious, the volatile, the mercurial, the changeable, etc. are all definitely part of our mutual human experience and private, social, and societal interactions. "Forever fickle can be that / Forever pickle that we laugh at." At least, I hope so!!  (Gary Bateman - May 3, 2016) (Verse)

Categories: allegory, analogy, hyperbole, irony, judgement, metaphor, and symbolism.

Fickle The ebb and flow of life; Fickle is, fickle does, fickle so Yet struggle we all to know, Can we really do this? Love—yeah, Friendship—yeah, Character, Smart, Dumb, Fun; Do we know what we want? Forever fickle can be that Forever pickle that we laugh at With Mankind locked in that Forever maze ever mercurial. Frazzle, frizzle, razzle are the now; Dazzle is the How and When? One who’s portentous in thought, Whose mind is open but adrift, May know this How and When. Shall it be him or her or both? Just maybe—it’s no one at all! Gary Bateman, Copyright © All Rights Reserved (March 28, 2016) (Verse)

Hello Again Freddie, Looks like you're exploring some more of my writes. Your more than welcome to do so. (I just posted a short story a few weeks ago to Poetry Soup under the title: "Only a Little Kid." It's listed under the "War" category, after you click on the short story link.) You might find it interesting. It will be in my second book, planned for next year. Best Christmas Wishes!! Gary

Trickles of fickle dance through the head. Fickle bows, but trickle curtsies then departs. Embraced by one's own loyalties and the honour of one's true self, no space remains for fickle, stupidity, nor the dumb and the ridiculous. The "flow of life" far outreaches the "ebb".:) Best wishes, Mikki

Hello Mikki!! An extraordinarily well-articulated comment here on "Fickle." It's refreshing to read for sure. I think as all of us get older -- and hopefully wiser -- each of us learn to sort through fickle circumstances when they occur. Variability will always be resident aspect of human nature. Continued Best Wishes!! Gary

The one who is fickle often remains alone. Even when he makes a choice he wonders if it was the right one and therefore is unable to fully commit. You write the truth!

Hello There Dear "D"!! Thanks for your read and great comments here and for the TR/FAV!! You might want to read Anne-Lise's note to me below and my response to her. I didn't fully appreciate it when I was thinking about this write, but this poem does have subconsciously from my mind some definite fairy tale overtones with regard to "Life" and the role that "one being fickle at times," may actually play in it. There is a definite play on words here in this write (somewhat analogous to certain verse writes by Gerard Manley Hopkins), but my center point turns on how each of us chooses to live our lives and the need for being wary necessarily of "preconceived notions." And so, there is actually some real deep content behind the sing-song alliteration conveyed in the write. My, my -- I sound so serious tonight!! Cheers and Best from Ingrid and me!! "G"

Hello Anne-Lise!! A very wise view by you indeed of this particular poem. It just so happens that I'm well-versed in the tale of "Winnie the Pooh" and the famous "Pooh-Way" outlook for doing things. In fact, Ingrid bought me a fascinating fairy tale book in 2006 by Benjamin Hoff, called "The Tao of Pooh." He writes of the philosophy of "Taoism" and overlays his discussion of it via key situations and parables concerning Pooh, Piglet, and the other characters from Winnie the Pooh. (The essence of all of this concerns living one's life without about how life should be lived.) Perhaps this was in the back of my mind when I crafted this write. Very Interesting!! Cheers and Best!! - This reminds me of the Winnie the Pooh :) - He has many wise answers :))) - I believe we humans have a bit of Winnie the Pooh in our "heart, blood and thoughts" :))) - Winnie the Pooh have all these categories: allegory, analogy, hyperbole, irony, judgment, metaphor, and symbolism - A wonderful poem, dear Gary .... a 7 + - hugs // Anne-Lise :)
