Fate On the Feathers

When I met you in the language of lonely war three feathers fastened to your breast breathing sore many graves of gentlemen knew your score and the devil deigned for more, tears you had for all times rhymes and ribs broke from crimes making aching lore, ink of fire you did pour, scold and scorch on skin red soft, truly poetry the maze and metaphor, A feather you gave with each kiss and wound to savor their texture smooth as silken vapor, tips cut cruel by sibyl's saber, quills and spells I made of them, heaven and venom in every lash and letter when love was innocent, revolutionary, rampant with rogue fight, rapid on soul river with hawk's edge I wrote with might and flight, dominant on the flesh of firmament's blue leather, Where the owl's point pierced the vellum of victory's scripture antebellum affections covered our eyes with wings of damp wisdom and cool color, together we took the touch of roses and razors, feeling the sting and arousal of friendly danger as the nights knew more than days, secrets grew sweeter, dreams bolder, howls heavy and louder, our zenith reached the zone quiet calm black, a raven's stem sealed the song of sleeping stranger - J.A.B.

"I met you in the language of lonely war", "together we took the touch of roses and razors"... These are amazing ways of describing that connection between reader and poet. That feeling we all share through words... Beautifully penned, Justin!

Together we took the touch of rosws nd razors..That is deep,to have both beauty and pain of a relationship..Only a strong love and affection can overcome those razors and win those wars to embrace the softness of each feather and the petal of a rose.Awesome.

Each feather is emblematical of our love's progression...the hawk's signifies passion and creative union, the owl's, wisdom and fortitude, and the raven's reveals the metamorphosis of mind, the the new soul becoming, Afolabi, thank you my friend...J.A.B.

This is indeed a sad touch, it really touched my heart and my whole body is aching but in the last stanza I think I miss something.

Justin, I'm back after several reads. I guess you never got that Soup mail asking if my interpretation of the "you" is correct. I waited for a reply, but I guess I'll make do with my amateur view on it. My soup mail was to ask if Death is the "you" here. This poem, like others you have on this site just flows with awesome beauty, but with a touch of the dark in this case. However, now, I feel that you were talking about Poetry? Ah my friend, forgive the lack of understanding of a neophyte. Kim

continued 1- amazing descriptions, and all throughout. I love how you weave various majestic birds into your metaphors, and into your tapestry of memoir, with the piercingly audacious owl with its wings of wisdom and color, the hawk, describing your mighty, adventurous and dominant edge your art blooms with triumphantly, and of course that beautifully mysterious raven who leaves one silenced entirely… to me, they almost signify the phases in some extremely unique relationship! Or maybe even an individual’s own life…

Yes my passionate Poetess, you see the wings, feel the feathers and touch the emotions with your intense intellect...a delight it is to stimulate your mind and color your imagination. The majesty and mysticism of these bold birds is alive in your unparalled beauty and creativity Laura. The raven is indeed the most mysterious and gracefully dark of the three, we are seem at the mercy of it's mission...J.A.B.

continued 2- and then I return to the beginning, and it sort of makes sense why she should wear those three different feathers upon her breast, telling a story all their own. The ending is very painful and beautiful. The silence stings one with wonder… all in all, this poem is so intense with affection and majesty. You sway me into another world with your exploratory, priceless words, and that’s what I will admire about you forever. Love always, Laura

A woman of extraordinary will, ability, and seduction always carries, and sometimes gives the symbols of her power to the One she loves with pain and admiration. It is very important to me that this poem, conveys the mystery, passion, sorrow and affection that has made this love so very intense, dynamic and suspensful; I'm so grateful that you understand this, and appreciate my heart and craftsmanship Laura...J.A.B.
