Family Time
Lying on my stomach in the summer sun,
Wind and water became my best friend.
Enjoying the last day of our vacation,
And asking myself, why this all must end.
I hear the waves now crashing on the shoreline
Begging me arise and come on in.
Lazily I think, just one more moment,
And try to fall asleep here once again.
All at once I’m wakened with a feeling
Like someone stuck a thousand knives in me.
I jump up shocked and gasping not expecting;
My two sons running, laughing full of glee.
Each one with empty pail in hand excited
Knowing now the game had just begun,
For mommy coming, roaring like a tiger
Can only mean it’s time to have some fun.
Daddy follows suit and runs behind us
Grabbing them he lifts both in the air,
Then all of us go diving in the water
Splashing sending warped beads everywhere.
The droplets looked like crystals in the sunlight,
We stay all day just soaking in the fun,
Too soon it’s time to pack the car and go home
But not before we watch the setting sun.
Just four short weeks since at the seashore,
September brought us leaves of orange and red.
Today we walk together in our forest,
Enjoying now the pleasures here instead.
