Family Roots
An African man once said to me
A parent is like a mighty tree
To understand who we’ve become
We must look close at where we’re from
He smile at me while bending down
And picked a leaf up from the ground
He pointed to the other leaves
And said “they’re here because of trees”
The leaf was just a simple hint
To help me know his message sent
From parents we are leaf and limb
And we exist because of them
And as you grow into a tree
Remember how you came to be
