Faithful Seraphim: a Prayer of the Better Half

PRAYER OF THE BETTER HALF (Faithful Seraphim) When seraphs tend their ears To prayers faithfully borne, Oh my lips, unlock thy seal And water the air with The scent of my plea. By morning and by night, My entreaties I pour In your sacred pouch, To thee holy one, That when thy sanctified wings Flapped Upward, towards The god’s listening ear And thy whisper undefiled By weighty flesh, May they bear my tears To the lord for redress. For long I have tilled on cupid’s field And my sheaves thinned from winnowing – A lean heap only could fill, Poorer in gaze than the years. Yet if only I find you, I shall count it all sane And the gone by days Not betterly spent. And as the night sky Calls forth the light of the stars, To bless the glow of the moon, I implore thee faithful seraphim, Bear my bones to me.
