Face the Storm
(A Blank Verse Sonnet)
If I should face the storm beneath my roof
and thunder rends the air with haughty blast;
If lightning streaks across the blackened sky
and if the bolt strikes down my willow tree,
then who will cringe in fear and hide, or who
will brave the storm, resist the urge to flee?
What if the crash of thunder is robust,
the roof tilts east, and rattled dishes crack?
Will I recoil and scoot beneath my bed
or will I stand and face the raging force?
A life on earth is filled with flare of fire
so hot it burns our dreams and scatters ash,
but one must not tell God how big the storm.
Instead, go tell the storm how big is God.
