Exchanging Boots

A rich boy hadn't thought of a gift,
how would Santa know what to bring?
And although time was running short,
he still could not think of a thing.
With Christmas Day approaching fast,
he was out playing in the snow.
And as fluffy flakes tumbled down,
a chilly wind began to blow.
Through the storm, he saw a poor boy,
a street waif with a runny nose.
He was wearing old shabby boots,
with holes, and he could see his toes.
Suddenly, the little boy thought,
I'll give him mine; they'll fit, I'm sure.
And exchanging boots, he ran home,
knowing what to ask Santa for.
Come Christmas day, as church bells rang,
he felt a warm feeling inside.
For the true spirit of Christmas
had his heart near bursting with pride.
The brand new boots that Santa brought,
stood shining bright under the tree.
And he smiled as he put them on,
for he felt he'd earned them, you see.
