A brave young soldier died, killed in Afghanistan. And he'll be interred as an honored serviceman. He was placed in harm's way by those he defended. And far from family his shortened life ended. He was a patriot, a man of strong morals. He shunned recognition and garnered no laurels. He's dead; I must face that, but it's breaking my heart. My son was my hero, and I'm falling apart. His duty resulted in a father's worst fears. And though I want to cry, I won't greet him with tears. His body was sent home in a flag-draped coffin. And I go visit his grave, every so often. Emile, it's sad when our loved one's return in a coffin draped with a flag. That's not the kind of homecoming we want. I know we are thought and preached it's for our country. His/her body in harms way, the moment he/she agreed to stand up for what they believe. This is a remarkable and touching write. I'm glad to see and read your poem today. LINDA

Great poem Emile to many of these boys the military is the only option to escape poverty and a hostile environment. It is sad some view these wars as imperialistic. Hope your health is improving.

Thanks Tim, we owe every soldier a debt of thanks, the least we can do is give them the respect they have earned with their blood. Emile.

Wonderful poem Emile, contrary to the comment below, its a lie to say imperialistic, many of these soldiers are there to do good, in fact Canadian soldiers have played a huge role, in positive developments there. Its never easy, and sometimes 1 step back for 2 forward, but we must try. Great poem!

Thanks Arthur, sometimes men of good conscience have to stand up for what they believe in...even if it means their death. Emile.
