Ethanol Is a Thief of Youth

Auto-annihilation is stupid, It breaks hearts, And ruins lives, I hate that I was ever self-destructive, I rue the day I became entranced By its shadowy charisma. Ethanol is a thief of youth: Poor Jo-Jo was right To warn her cherished daughter Of its insidious malignancy. I was one of the fortunate ones In that it didn't entirely destroy me; But despite its lack of glamour, In comparison to Other more romanticised intoxicants, It's among the most lethiferous of drugs, And it stole from me, What remained of my gorgeous youth.

Hi Olive Eloisa, I'm so glad you liked this poem, thank you so much for your encouraging comment, I very much appreciate it. I'm really sorry about your grandfather. Yes, it's a subject I feel very passionate about; and you're right, young people should seriously take into consideration the terrible potential dangers of alcohol.

I love when people break out words I've never heard. Lethiferous is a good one. I learned something new today, so thank you for that. New word aside, that was a good read, and well-written, Bravo!

Thank you so much, Preston, I'm so glad you enjoyed it; I think I came across "lethiferous" some years ago when I was going through a phase of being obsessed by archaic terms; and it stuck with me.
