Enough

In her beauty she walks beside the water Her reflection is found in its stillness The quietness of her heart mirrors that of the pond Decisions made much earlier have left a void within But still she has a quiet strength, and knowing That what must be done will be done She offers no excuses And feels no need for justification from others And this has set her free So many times her thoughts were consumed With satisfying the demands of others Tugging on her heart like hungry pups at the teat All wanted to be heard and gratified Twisted and pulled by the will of others Had left her weary and troubled Her freedom of choice a casualty Had died from neglect The difference in her now had come From a heart that for too long Had been disregarded But now as she sat beside the mirrored pool And looked deep into and within A recognition came She was enough

Laurie, we do set ourselves free when we don't depend on the approval of others, don't we? You've given me a lot to think about. Love the last line! Carolyn

Everybody has to put their foot down sooner or later, or up someones rear end...ouch! I hear ya girl..I love your writing...keep it up...Lawrence in Lou. Did that ol' storm reach you all like it did here in Louisville? We caught it bad..I had to go to my sisters house 11 miles away just to stay warm for 3 nights . I finally got power back at 10:00 am this morning. So far, I have only one busted pipe. We still have a bunch of people around without any electric..Lawrence in Lou. Ky.

This beautifully written poem conveys a lot of inner strength, Laurie. It is easy to lose yourself trying to keep everybody happy. I can relate with this one very well. I am starting to find my voice and it is getting stronger and more positive! Well said, my friend! Loveudu too, Robin

This is a wonderful write Laurie...sad truth for a lot(including myself) never fully thinking you are quite enough until the little light bulb goes off..This is well written with some nice colorful language..the fifth stanza and the last few lines are beautiful..Great job of bringing this piece to life..much love, Chris.

Thought provoking poem, and deeply truthful. A lot of us fall into doing what everyone expects of us, and we lose ourselves. Well written, Laurie. ~ Love, Carrie
