Ennui

Ringing phone unanswered Dishes dumped in the sink Behind the cobwebs A flap of wallpaper trapped Sunlight peers through smeared windows Oprah gushes excitedly As the colours flicker and change Slumped on the sofa His body registers fatigue Not mirrored by the buzzing fly Dull eyes without the energy To stare To move makes his joints ache Every day is the same Every day is an effort World weariness grips him Like a vice Sloths look dynamic Beside him He wishes for an envoi to his ennui
