Empty Hands
waiting to be burned
you can see
that which you hold
higher than any other
your heart's true flame
a fire burning deep
waiting just to hold
your heart's true flame
waiting just to see
that which burns so deep
reaching for no other
knowing you'll be burned
disregarding that which burned
giving up hope for any other
reaching in to the fire to hold
that which burns so very deep
your skin burns in the flame
your heart is all you can see
your heart is burned
your deep in the flame
still tightly you hold
all you can see
that which burns so deep
still seeing no other
what is it you hold
what is it you see
why is it so deep
why do you have to be burned
will you touch the flame
will you see any other
can you see what you hold
can you hold it in the flame
how do you get so burned
how can it get so deep
will there be any other
will it be what you see
when you let go of that which you hold
will it still be there burning so deep
or will all that remain be the flame
