Employment For An Elf

Being short, I was asked to play an elf For a mall Santa who had his own beard The elf suit I’d not have picked for myself Spock ears, curled shoes and red tights – I looked weird The regular elf had caught a bad flu While jolly Saint Nick downed too much eggnog Rascal Rudolph, sans the eight-reindeer crew, Grazed on manger hay like a “boarish” hog Children wanted to sit on Santa’s lap But his halitosis cast most away One large boy created quite a mishap He slid and cracked Santa’s over-packed sleigh Today I’ll not venture into a mall They remind me of my worst job of all *Written November 10, 2014 for Sara’s “Jobs” contest

Thanks, Sara. I needed work to pay for school and this job helped, even though the "Santa" was rather strange.

Carolyn, you are so good at stirring up old memories, for better or for worse. Alas, we must taste the bitter to appreciate the sweet.

This is serious and witty all in one. Not such an encouraging start to the world of finance! My first job was sowing potatoes; next was with a farrier...turning the handle to keep the coal in the forge smoldering. Those were happy days! // paul

I took my son to see Santa a few years ago, and yes, Santa was more than a little tipsy! I feel for you. That had to be awful. A great write, Carolyn! Love and Blessings, Rhonda
