Elixir of Life

"Precious water--the elixir of life, yet we still its sources with blase' knife." A town in the desert awaits rescue from thirst. Water supply gone, result of a twenty-year drought that's worsening Gifts from nature are for us to revere They have life spans and deserve our care yet we abuse Industry pours poison into streams, ending them. Discarded plastics suffocate the oceans Fresh air--words Forests burning or drowning Wildlife and sea creatures are dying we're killing Mother Nature gave hints; now she is yelling We didn't listen when she told us she was in peril Her endowments will last forever, we tell ourselves Start visualizing chasing tumbleweeds, languishing in a cactus shade January 17,2023 for "Quote This" poetry contest by Rick Parise

Your last line is a grim reminder of what is going to happen in future. When we exploit nature and pollute our water sources, we never realize that we are poisoning the elixir of life. Ann, your warning has to be taken with due concern.

Thank you so much, Valsa. Yes, we are Earth's stewards!

This reminds me of when I lived in Phoenix, water is so vital and sadly all too easy to take for granted, the earth is precious and needs to be protected~

I once loved Phoenix but it has become too huge and Tucson is following. I live in So. NM. Las Cruces has 100k, and 4 golf courses. Many, many retirees who want lawns, are disappointed our lawns are made of rock, but like the sun :) Thanks for comments. It's a sad world.

The imperfections of mankind have caused terrible damaged to our planet. Your points are all well-made, Ann. They should be well-taken as well.

Thank you, Jenna! What may have seemed a relatively simple task years ago, becomes more improbable each day.

Precious are Mother Nature's expendable gifts. Ann, you have written a poem for all ages to read and reflect on our stewardship of this earth. Blessings fellow steward. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you so much, Sam! It's very frustrating, isn't it? We write poems, but my last protest was the year before Covid. I sign on-line petitions, which I doubt are ever read But we can't stay silent.

I know; we act as if there is some norm so that even if things swing 'way out, they have to swing back in equal measure. Hey, Guys! There is no rule! Wake up! Elizabeth

Thanks, Elizabeth! Until it hurts some people in the pocket-- or they are just too stupid for words--they'll continue to add to the problem.
