Ego - a Bubble of Illusion

Ego. Is it self respect? Is it pride for what we know? When the river of thoughts are blocked or stopped, Where does ego go? Should age be like a beaver Building dams with sticks and moss, And our mindful vision fog or shrink, Like sticky candy floss, Would we be so big headed And pig ignorant in our way? If thoughts were to cease, How would our ego play? We must not take for granted The gift we have of mind. For all too easily we could lose it And our ego would go blind! It's a bubble of illusion. It could pop at any time! All egos have their weaknesses And that's not a crime. It's good to find the balance, To have a healthy view of self. At times, it is essential To leave ego on the shelf.
