Author's Notes:  Another free verse poetic thought piece looking at the inner self, and one's relationship to nature via a vision of an enchanted forest from one's past days.  (Gary Bateman - September 28, 2014)

I gaze at the edge of the forest and wonder of life therein. My native knowledge tells me there is much to marvel at. Whether it is morning, afternoon or evening Mother Nature’s intervening schedule is continuous, seamless, and wonderful. The forest displays a sense of beauty and at any given moment— a wild desire to be understood and appreciated. I know that when my days are numbered and short, I will conjure up in the depth of my consciousness a past image as a child standing at the edge of the forest— eternal in my studied gaze and enchantment of all that's wonderful and beyond description in God’s World. KAYOD5, Thanks again for your read here!! (I see you're checking out my ever-growing body of poetry!!) The nature themes are always quite interesting to delve into. I just hope that the high-pitch continued industrialization and pollution of our world does not destroy our planet in the end. Much to think about for this 21st Century!! Best Wishes Always, Gary

Hi Gary your poem made me think of the Norwegian artist Edvard Munchs' painting "Eventyrskogen" (Not sure of the correct German or English title, but it means The Fairy Tale Forest) . Nature hold great beauty, mystery and the forest to me is one of the ultimate symbols of life itself. I love the last stanza in poem, the innocent child's marveled gaze at all the trees, perhaps also wondering how it reached the end already. A truly beautiful gem of a poem, favourited!

Gry, I am also aware of this Edvard Munch painting, but I'm at a lost in both English and German to remember it. I'll have to check it out. I am quite pleased that you enjoyed this poem. I've always felt this way about both Nature and Forests. There is so much to marvel at no matter how young or old we are!! Cheers, Gary
