Edentown
I can smell the lovely roses in the garden by the clovers,
Where a neighbor came and greeted us, “Hello from Edentown!”
In my vision that I saw it, a reverie that was fore-lit,
By my hopes and dreams and wonders of a life that comes around.
I can hear the birds a chirping in the streets where I was flirting
With a girl whose eyes were wide who was apparently my wife.
And the children with their laughter, who were mine and playing after
School had shut down for the summer, I gasped, “Wow, this is the life!”
I can taste the roasted coffee, and the apples made of toffee,
In the evening breeze that blows through all the windows facing west.
And this house that has an aura, in this town how I adore her,
Shines of light and light of gold and bronze across this treasure chest.
I can see a large procession, people waiting for a lesson
Or a story ‘bout creation of the stars across the night
Listening in anticipation, faces show all this elation.
Wonderment and peace flow like a river through this town tonight.
I can feel the touch of a face and the radiance of her grace.
The embracing of our arms speaks of love and happy endings.
And the children sit on my knee and their eyes they shine so brightly
As the warm sun says goodnight, the full moon is now ascending.
Life of freedom, no provision, also freedom from religion.
“A jolly good town!” A man would say, “That’s life in Edentown!”
But this vision would be better if I were floating on a feather,
For this place seems but a fairy tale, this life in Edentown.
