Eden In The Eye Of The Beholder

Let me show you the regurgitation
of the mother bird into open beaks,

the canine nose beyond the human range
that savors the rear of its companion,

the spider feeling the snared butterfly
now dancing on sticky musical strings,

or call attention to the feline purr
accompanying the squeals of its prey,

the squirming delight a few days later
when maggots caper on bloated organs.

You can’t get past your judgments of “Grotesque!
Disgusting! Filthy! Creepy! Horrible!”

You are insensible to this beauty,
once having eaten the forbidden fruit.

Eden’s garden remains all around you,
invisible without full innocence.
