I saw the sun go dark today, colossal orbs aligned. The afternoon faded away to awe all humankind. We watched as moon to earth opposed in their celestial shift, and lucent day to night transposed in one huge, astral drift. I felt, right then, the massive slide that carries me through space— a single grain of sand, I ride on Earth's eternal face. Colossal orbs aligned today to make my world go dark— the mighty sun on bold display and me, barely a spark. *this poem was written after I viewed the 2017 eclipse!

Awesome rhymes and cadence. You might enjoy John Gondolph's poem, similar to yours but in the form of a sonnet

And, how small are we, “a grain of sand, barely a spark” in the uncountable galaxies in the universe, leave alone this small example in our solar system; and you, dear Kathrine, so gifted, distill the enormous-unimaginable with a humble, human grace, in poetic elegance.

A beautiful poem Kathrine, capturing the very essence of the spectacular eclipse, you felt yourself and place in the universe as barely a spark, but a sentient one nonetheless that gave meaning to the eclipse, and without our sparks to observe the universe it would mean nothing, I believe we have a role to play, every bit as important as any celestial body, but hey that’s just my take on existence, cheers David

I agree, David, I was just illustrating the feeling of smallness in the scope of the vastness of our universe that this event made me feel aware of. I believe human beings are sacred beings within our universe, absolutely.
