Earthly Lessons
God didn't put us here to yearn
For Heaven's gates and this life spurn.
He meant the earth to be our school,
the life we lead our learning tool.
Our diplomas and rewards will come
when we have graduated from
this nursery of eternity.
It's only then we'll be set free.
Like any scholar, do your best
to learn your lessons, pass the test.
Don't agitate and press for more
until God's added up your score.
Though some may have an easy ride
and let these earthly lessons slide,
God will consider that and give
full credit for the way we live.
Though some may seem of little worth,
they still are pilgrims on this earth.
God's watching, will remember when
they shared their crusts with other men.
Some souls may have to forfeit weight
before they enter through the gate.
While those who've love their fellow man
will be scored higher in God's plan.
