Drink Up
Drink Up
Life’s flowing vintage of our yesterday
Perhaps was bitter dry or richly sweet.
However, then we could not know the taste
Of later wine for years still incomplete.
Today’s wine, dry or sweet, is relative
To what our life has served up in the past.
But fickle future waits to blend her mix—
Sets up the mystery of life to last.
But if we ask of life, “what is the blend
Of future aging wine fermenting yet?”
She might then answer you, “to know will spoil
The secret taste surprise of what you get.”
So digest yesterday, drink up today;
Tomorrow, hold your glass up high and sigh—
Ask life to fill it full up to the brim
Not knowing if the serve be sweet or dry.
Whatever it may be…the dry or sweet…
Whatever it may be…accord or strife…
We have to shrug and murmur c’est la vie,
And follow with the echoed words…that’s life!
