Troubled teenagers question their fate,
expecting love, unprepared for hate.
Armored in lies, defending the truth,
a warrior lives in every youth.
Scars and tattoos display Anger's mark,
insipid badges, oft crude and stark.
When trust morphs into panic and fear,
hope vanishes, replaced by a tear.
Learning lessons city streets impart,
fear resonates in a naïve heart.
And turning to drugs, pride's set aside;
feeling scared; there is no place to hide.
Bodies of friends ingested by night;
traced in chalk by a city of light.
When living on the edge, dreams erode;
for nightmares travel that lonely road.
