Dreaming Free
I had a dream from some time,
long ago,
last night.
I think it must be my version
of the Buddy Guy blues riff,
"I done got old".
We were playing on an open field,
a game of keep away with a ball,
sometimes it was a filled sock,
(it was a dream after all).
So many young
men and women,
(some I recognized),
some beards, long hair,
joyful, showing off
our speed and agility,
no hate, no venom ,
up and down the field
like lion cubs on the beach.
Just the sheer love
of running,
of movement,
of what we were meant to be.
And I thought,
in the midst of my dream,
how many times I had played
that game, once upon a time
and how long
it has been since I played,
or even thought of playing,
and how,
with these achy bones, impossible.
to play right now,
and with these thoughts
in my dream, I then gladly
rejoined the game.
