Dream Catchers

Some Native Americans it seems believe that the air is filled with good and bad dreams.. The legend states that when one sleeps, a dream catcher will trap the bad ones that seep. Place a dream catcher at the head of your bed and trap the bad ones in it's web.. The good dream will pass thru it's center hole, bring peace and comfort to the slumbering soul.

Hi Nancy, The title of your poem got my attention - what an interesting concept about good dreams and bad dreams. Actually, probably last year I wrote a poem myself on "Dream Catchers" - I saw a picture, but did not know the real significance. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a touching comment for my poem.

Dear Malabika, Your poetry is exceptional dear poetess. I don't have the attention span nor patience to write like so many others on this site do. I belong to a couple Native American charities, so I receive a lot of Dream Catchers.

Hi Nancy . I love your poem about the dream catchers.I learned something new. I’ve spent time with the Apaches in eastern Arizona documenting their coming-of-age ceremony of young girls for many years and it’s always been such a gift to be with them. I noticed below that you’ve spent time with the Hopi., Thank you for your visit to my poem, and I look forward to reading more of yours too. All the best, Susan. :)

Dear Susan, I only spent one week with the Hopi's in 2005 thru the Elder Hostel project. My friend Linda and I worked in the school system there for a week only. It was winter and the week before a major celebration. It was a privilege and a treasured memory for me. Happy Thanksgiving.

a lovely rhyme poem about the almost mystical powers of dream catchers. When we lived in the desert southwest, dream catchers were on sale everywhere. I thought they were beautiful, but until I read your poem, I wasn't aware of their significance. Thanks for sharing. Have a pleasant evening, Sara

One of my few charities sends me them in the mail every few months and that was my motivation to write about them today. I'll be happy to send you a few in you want one. God bless you Ms. Ink and have a great evening.

Wow Darlene, I guess it's more then just a myth then. I think I will put mine over my headboard near my picture of Jesus where his eyes follow me through out my bedroom. Great idea. I have few nightmares though, just daymares. LOL

Nancy, your poem beautifully encapsulates the mystical allure of Native American folklore. Your words weave a captivating narrative that transports the reader into a world where dreams hold tangible power. The rhythm and flow of your verses echo the soothing motion of a dream catcher swaying in the night, promising peace and comfort to the slumbering soul. Excellent work, my friend! - Blessings, Daniel

Hi Daniel, Check out elder hostel on line. It's a service project. When I volunteered with my massage friend we worked in the Hopi Reservation school for a week. It's about 2 hrs. north of Flagstaff Arizona. They have lots of other options also.

Dear Daniel, I appreciate your visit and the lovely comments you left, way too flattering for such a quick write. I worked with the Hopi Indians in 2005 in Arizona as a part of the Elder Hostel program. Great experience if your up for it and they feed you very well.

Nice poem, great subject, Nancy. Sadly, some native Americans trusted the white man.
