Sunlight sparkles on the shimmering pond its mirror like surface smooth as silk dragonflies dance across the water performing aerial acrobatics like a circus in the air Water dipping on a fairground ferris wheel then plunging dramatically like a helicopter in free-fall rising and falling skimming the water so gracefully transparent gossamer wings flapping in flight Shimmering like a sapphire in the early morning sun dazzling me with your infinite beauty On summer days I wish I had wings seeing dragonflies’ dancing makes my heart sing This is one of my early poems and it is a particular favourite as I tried very hard with the imagery 15th May 2014

Jan one of my favorites for this contest. I remember watching these beautiful masters of flight when I was a child by a frog pond. They mesmerize you with their supreme flight abilities. This write brought back memories. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your win!!!!

Jan, awesome imagery and indisputable proof that, to quote a song, "Everything is beautiful in its own way." That, I should note, includes your poetry.

Aww Paul you are so kind. I am so so proud of this poem it is one of my early writes where I tried so hard with my imagery and I continue to learn. I have critics of my work who don't like my 'simple style' but I won't change who I am or how I write just to please a few:-) Hugs Jan xx
